Quick up date and another entertainment observation

Here we go. I've been out of school for close to two months. caught some rays on a cruise, then many, many more rays in Hawaii. I got a sick new car (Mazda 3) and I had a job for 3 weeks, but then they stopped calling me... So now I hang out with the pup then meet my mom for lunch, come home, get my OC on, then watch General Hospital when my mom gets home...

I just watched Encino Man for the first time today and I freaking loved it, but it made me realize how much teen movies have changed. It seems that movies from the early 90s were primarily centered around the male characters. It was always the dorky guy trying to get the cute, maybe a lil oblivious, girl and all the shananagins that follow. But starting around 2000ish teen movies really shifted to where the primary plot was centered around girls. Some examples include, ten things I hate about you, mean girls, Sydneywhite, and She's the man. Maybe there was a movement from "stoner" movies to more "chick flicks" in the teenage comedy genre.

If you haven't seen Encino Man... you need to. I'm gonna go buy it for $7 so lets all watch it together. :)

It's been a long time

This isn't really a "update" entry b/c I have a lot to do, but I have to share the hilarity I experienced last night. This might only be funny to pledge sis, b/c she loves snl. but I swear I listened to a podcast hosted by "Coffee Talks" own Linda Richman.

I stumbled across an interview of one of the actresses from GH and I thought it would be interesting to listen to while getting ready for bed. So I turn it on and I'm listening to the host introduce the show thinking, "OMG! This woman sounds like Linda Richman!!" The accent wasn't as think but the way she was pronouncing words like Caller as "colla" and talk as "tawk" I was in awe. Then... she said it. She sealed the deal. The actress, Megan Ward, was late and this woman, no joke, said, "Talk amongst ya selves"!!! hahahahahaha. I really wanted her to give us a discussion topic... "It's called General Hospital, but it's mostly about the mob...discuss" I was waiting for her to get ferklempt and call Megan "Buhta". She could have taken "Barbara Strisaind" out of the script and inserted "Megan Wawd (Ward)". All I could picture is this woman with a big black hair-do, long red nails and a big sweater with shoulder pads. So while I enjoyed the interview I could have listened to her "tawk" to the janitor.

PS- It might have been so funny b/c I was tired, but I'm still a dork so I'm outta here.

Sunny with the high in the mid-80s praising God

I'm so excited about retreat. you literally have no idea. A weekend with my best friends in a city that's meant to chill in (well metaphorically). Palm Springs is like my third home...San Diego, Hawaii, Palm Springs. I'm so excited that it's going to be warm b/c we NEVER go places where its warm and so it will be easier to pack. I am also excited that there is a pool in the backyard. Devo time is going to be so different. Give my bathing suit, sunscreen, hat, glasses, towel, a Bible and journal. what could be better? and forget card games and would you rather, I'll be chillin' trying to catch some sweet rays. I am actually serious about the whole laying out thing b/c in the next 3 or 4 months I'll be in Vegas for 3 days, Mexico for 4 days, and Hawaii for 2 weeks!!! This white girl needs a base tan. hehehe. Well one more day of dreaded school and then it's 4 hrs stuck in traffic on the 15 north. God Bless Palm Springs and Mou Rou for setting it up.

Just thinkin'

First things, first- I'm pretty sure ever actor(ess) has been on CSI at one time or another. From my mom's high school bff, to the OC's leading mothers, even the "fashionista" of gh... but that's not what this post is about.

While I was looking something up on imdb I came across the profile of my mom's bff/maid of honor, Susanna Thompson and it made me a little sad. This lady was my mom's bestie through high school, in her wedding, worked at Sears together and now they aren't in contact. My mom always says that she doesn't really have any real "girl friends" and that my sister and I fill the spots. It made me think my high school experiences and my "bffs"... not really any more. I had a huge falling out with one and the other is living across the country. It's not that I'm lonely or friendless, it's just that you share a connection with these girls and *poof* they are gone. My sister was right, college is the place you meet your real friends, and I have, I just get a little nostalgic about the EastLake High Class of '04

Melo-drama addict

As I wasted precious time this morning online I realized I'm freaking addicted to melo-dramatic soap operas. I sit at the edge of my seat every monday to see the next Gossip Girl and dive on to the couch every afternoon to watch General Hospital, but I don't think it's necessarily a bad thing b/c it just means my life isn't dramatic so I have to live vicariously through cheesy shows.

GH sweeps ad- hahahaha

Gorgeous Dresses and Long Speeches

I love awards season. I do. Mostly because I love to see what people people wear and either mock them or envy them. This year started off with a bang. There were so amazing dresses that graced the red carpet at the Golden Globes and I want to honor some of my favorites

OMG! some of the speeches were so long. This is a three hour show people and there is a lot to get through. We know you're excited/emotional but get a grip. My God, Kate Winslet won 2 and while I love her, she's butta (Linda Richmond "Coffee Talk"), I'm not sure you need to thank your make-up artist for making you look like betta butta. When she pulled out her first thank you speech for The Reader I thought she was reading an address to congress (or Parliament). Then she won again for Revolutionary Road and while she didn't have one ready she seemed to talk just as long... and she was crying. I kind of wanted to throw a sock, because I think it would do less damage than a shoe to our tv. So I have come up with a template that I will send to help condense the speech for the Oscars... since the golden globes are usually a precursor to the Oscars-

(read emotionally in an English accent)
"Oh my gosh. I'm so excited to receive this award. I'd like to thank the director_____, and the producers for allowing me to be a part of this fantastic project. I'd like to thank my costars, (Leo D.), _______, it's been an honor to work with you and I'd like to thank the rest of the cast and crew, without you none of this would be possible. Finally I'd have to thank my husband, you are the love of my life (blah, blah, blah), and my kids, Mummy loves you. THANK YOU!

see that's all you really need to say. Obviously they don't know how to "cliff note" things across the pond. Anyway, that's going in the mail tomorrow, b/c otherwise the Oscars could be a long night. hahaha.

In conclusion... I love award shows and when I can add pics of my favorite dresses I will. Enjoy the last week and a half of break

Golden Globe Picks

Best looking couple (OK, they aren't an actual couple but they might as well be)- Kate Winslet and Leonardo DiCaprio (OMG OMG! IT'S LEO!!!! AHHHHH :p)

Prettiest vintage dress- Jane Krakowski (30 Rock)

Prettiest bold color dress- Polly Pocket sized Eva Longoria-Parker

Prettiest Simple black dress (nice lil touch with the broach at the hip)- double winner Kate Winslet

Prettiest white off the shoulder dress- Sandra Bullock

All around prettiest sexy/form fitting dress- Beyounce

In conclusion, I'm so jealous of all these gorgeous people and the fact that they get to wear these beautiful dresses and jewelry. The only one I think I would ever be able to pull-off is...Beyounce's...HAHAHA. just kidding. No really it would probably be Kate Winslet's. Hey man, I'm dropping the LBs, banquet is in 3 months I just need to work out and find a way to get my grubby (OK, I'll wash them) hands on it. and the Jewels, but I'd probably get arrested :X

Scholarship...

So I just got an email from school and the title was, "SDSU Scholarship", so I open it up and it is the "Cesar Chavez Memorial Scholarship".... HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA. Obviously it is a blanket email that they send to everyone. I think I shed a single tear of laughter. If it wasn't a blanket email they must have saw I lived in Chula Vista and figured I would fulfill the requirements (poor and Hispanic). Oh geez. What a day. I should be studying for another horrible standardized test, the CBEST, but I'm sitting here listening to Maggie snoring and watching tivo.
